Glossary of terms

This glossary is still being compiled. Here are a few examples of words you may like to learn more about.

apotropaeic: of Greek origin the word literally means 'to turn away'. An action described as apotropaic denotes one that is deflective or protective especially when used to describe averting evil or malevolent forces as a spiritually protective measure.

cache: denotes a place where objects are hidden or refers to the group of hidden objects themselves.

midden: the traditional meaning of this word pertains to a recess or receptacle for domestic refuse or the space where dust bins for household rubbish are kept. Tim Easton uses the term "spiritual midden" to describe caches of concealed objects.
